January 21, 1927 ~ May 2, 2023
Norma Gean Nicholas McKee, aka “Boppa,” peacefully passed away shortly after midnight on May 2, 2023, with her daughter by her side. She was born in Ogden, on January 21, 1927, to Harold Cole and Elsie Mae Mourant Nicholas. She attended Lincoln Elementary, Mound Fort Junior High and graduated from Ogden High School in 1945. She married A. Dean McKee on June 30, 1947 but later divorced in 1976. They had one daughter, Kristine Anne.
Norma was a charter member of the Stewart Rehabilitation Center Women’s Board, the Chareya Club, a Pink Lady at the old St. Benedict’s Hospital, a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club Ladies Golf Association and participated in many other organizations and activities. She developed a keen interest in interior design and decor and directed the remodeling of both of her homes. She taught herself how to sew on an old Singer sewing machine. She was extremely detail-oriented and excelled as a seamstress. She had a great eye for fabric, color, texture and style. She loved playing golf and won a senior championship at Swan Lake at 72 years old. In 1999, she was baptized, along with her daughter and grandson at St. Joseph Catholic Church, following the faith of her mother and grandmother. She loved going for drives with her dogs. She enjoyed socializing, bridge, crossword puzzles, good conversation and most recently, jigsaw puzzles. But most importantly she loved her friends and family. Her only grandson named her “Boppa” and the name stuck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her dogs, her brother Harold (Nick) Nicholas, and her sisters Annette Richards and Betty Rounds Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Kristine M. Knowlton; her grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Dr. Nicholas D. and Jordan Knowlton; and by two great-granddaughters Ava Katelyn and Madelyn Kristine Knowlton.
She requested cremation. There will not be a funeral per her request. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.providentfuneralhome.com. Special thanks to Applegate Hospice for providing comfort, care, attention and friendship. Donations to pet rescue organizations in her memory would be greatly appreciated: suggestions are Save Our Local Pets https://www.saveourlocalpetsutah.org/ and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah https://wrcnu.org/.
