SALT LAKE CITY — You can see them at most activities and events at the school. They go to Mass; they volunteer. They can also be spotted before and after school helping with transportation. They are grandparents, and they play an important role in the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School family.

Nearly 110 grandparents, and other special people in the lives of students, spent the morning of April 3 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School’s annual Grandparents and Grand Friends Day.

“This year has brought in the most grandparents we’ve ever had,” said Principal Christine Bergquist. “It’s awesome to see them come in, fill the gym, and enjoy the morning with us.”

The guests enjoyed a delicious breakfast, which was served by the eighth-grade students, followed by a student program that included songs, dances and presentations tied to the theme “Through the Decades,” which brought back fond memories and created new ones for our special guests.  Following the program, students were invited to meet with their grandparents and grand friends and show them around the school.

“We love having our grandparents and grand friends in the building to enjoy the day, but it’s also a great opportunity to thank some of our strongest supporters who offer their prayers, volunteer their time, and give generously all year long in support of our school and its programs” Bergquist said.

Following the whirlwind morning of activities, Grandparents and Grand Friends Day came to an end. Cherished memories were made, and teachers breathed a sigh of relief that all once again went smoothly. And the children know they are walking humbly with their God, glowing in the warmth of time spent with a special person in their lives.
