SALT LAKE CITY - It got a bit messy, but 21 volunteers, including students and family members, from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School helped sort approximately 2,500 pounds of food at the Utah Food Bank Warehouse on March 14.

This is an event that Kearns-St. Ann School participates in every year. The Our Lady of Lourdes community was inspired by Dee Heath (HSA President at Kearns-St. Ann School) to host their own family service evening event at the food bank during the 2011 Lenten season.

The evening was a great success. Boxes containing nearly 1,000 pounds each were sorted by the volunteers. The Our Lady of Lourdes students were able to experience firsthand the impact the 627 pounds of food they collected in their November 2010 food drive had on the food bank and the fight against hunger in Utah.
