Every month, Mary Andreason’s first grade class at Saint Andrew School explores a question of the month; they complete a project at home to answer the assigned question. The children work with their families but create something on their own. There are set rubrics, including organization, quality of visuals and delivery that they need to fulfill for a grade. The students come up with some unique posters or projects, which they share with the class. In the month of October they completed displays to answer, "What happens in the Fall?" The completed assignments were brought to school, shared with classmates, and later put on display in the library for the whole school to review. This project helps children become aware of their surroundings, develop their imaginations, gain information on a subject, feel success at completing a big project, and share their learning with family as they produce the final product. One can see that the children are proud of their accomplishment. Nola Christiansen spelled out AUTUMN with a picture for each letter.
