With sudden cardiac arrest being one of the leading causes of death in the United States, the St. George Knights of Columbus decided to help make their church a safer place by purchasing two automated external defibrillators, which can send an electric shot to the heart to try to restore the normal rhythm. The AEDs were installed in the St. George Church and the social hall earlier this year. “Now we’re in the process of getting training,” said Dave Arndt, past Grand Knight of the St. George Council and currently the District Deputy. “We want to train all of our ushers and the Knights … and anybody else that’s interested, in how to use them.” Although the AEDs do have step-by-step instructions, and also provides voice prompts, “I think people would feel more comfortable with some training,” said Arndt, shown with the AED that has been Installed in the parish’s Kuzy Hall.
