The Cathedral of the Madeleine welcomed Utah state legislators, judges, lawyers, police officers, first responders and members of all legal professions regardless of their religious affiliation to join the celebration of the Red Mass on Oct. 4, the Memorial of Saint Vincent. The tradition of a Red Mass goes back to the Middle Ages, and asks the Holy Spirit’s guidance for members of the legal profession. “Our community gathers on this day to pray as we present our respect and admiration for the great service you offer for the service of others,” said Father Langes Silva, the diocesan judicial vicar. He presided at the Mass in the name of Bishop Oscar A. Solis, who was attending a funeral. The concelebrant was Fr. Martin Diaz, the cathedral rector.
