BOUNTIFUL — Constantly striving to improve their commitment of providing their students a safe environment, the Home and School Association of Saint Olaf School conducted Safety Week events at the school, culminating March 27 with a Safety Fair and Bike Rodeo.
The school Safety Committee organized the events, highlighting many facets of safe environment factors at school and at home.
Fire drills and fire safety kicked off the week on Monday, followed by earthquake drills and earthquake safety information on Tuesday. Wednesday a bullying seminar was provided to the parents by Christy Hutchinson, the K-12 Prevention Coordinator for the Davis School District. She covered several topics, including bullying, depression and suicide, then answered many questions from the parents.
Thursday, during Healthy Eating Day, each class was visited by Home and School representatives who spoke to the students about reasons for healthy eating at home and elsewhere. All the students were then treated to a healthy snack provided by the presenters.
Following that, a mock lockdown was overseen by Detective Haws of the Bountiful Police Department.
Friday featured the Bike Rodeo, where the children participated in many different biking events, which emphasized bicycle safety. One of the highlights of the day was visits by officers from the Bountiful Police, some of whom were Bryan Cooper, Trent Noulton, Pricilla Argulo and Logan Payne.  Also, members of the Bountiful City Fire Department provided safety demonstrations and valuable information regarding safety at school and in the home.
In addition, the students were treated to a tour of Ogden Regional Medical Center’s MountainStar AirCare helicopter, which landed on the upper school grounds. The helicopter was piloted by Brock Woolsey, accompanied by John Fryer, R.N.
Students could also try on a firefighter’s turn-out gear, provided by Bethany Britten from the Salt Lake Unified Fire Authority.
Another popular event was the Car Seat Booth. Participating families were able to have each child weighed and then learned the correct seat for that particular child. A safety check of each car seat was made to make certain every car seat was properly installed.
The entire week was packed full of all sorts of safety ideas for parents and children. The Home and School Safety Committee should be congratulated for their tireless efforts in making Safety Week one of the most popular school events this year.
