ST. GEORGE — Sunshine and warm temperatures greeted the participants of the Cinco De Mayo celebration at Saint George Catholic Church in St. George on May 4. The event began at 10 a.m. and concluded around 8 p.m.

Booth tents were set up in the parking lot of the church outside the Bishop Scanlon Catholic Center for the many food plates that were being prepared.

Burritos, tacos, enchiladas, tamales, beans, rice, salsa, guacamole, and all the delicious accompaniments for good Mexican food, as well as several different specialty beverages, were all available to satisfy the appetites.

More than 500 people wandered through the festival area in the church parking lot to share in these many tasty foods and beverages and to visit with friends and family under the shade and shelter of dining tents while they ate.

Face paintings were available for the younger crowd. For those a bit older, the bucking bull offered an opportunity for men and women alike to exhibit their prowess. The mechanical bull usually won the competition, but those willing to have some fun gave it their very best try and provided great entertainment for those cheering along the sidelines.

A variety of dance routines were shared for the pleasure of the audience and music was played throughout the event to accompany the enthusiasm of the crowd.

Rita Cohen organized the celebration again this year; Teresa Loya coordinated the preparation of ethnic food and beverages for the event.
