All but two of the living Salt Lake City Diocesan Council of Catholic Women presidents gathered with other mourners at St. Olaf Catholic Church June 29 to attend the funeral of Kathy Jones, a former DCCW president, who died June 28 after a short battle with cancer.

All but two of the living Salt Lake City Diocesan Council of Catholic Women presidents gathered with other mourners at St. Olaf Catholic Church June 29 to attend the funeral of Kathy Jones, a former DCCW president, who died June 28 after a short battle with cancer. At the funeral Mass, Father Reynato Rodi-llas, pastor of St. Olaf Parish, recalled the friendship Jones showed him by being the first parishioner to invite him to a Jazz game. She also did an excellent job of keeping the parish books, he said. In a eulogy, Bobby Christiansen, who had been Jones’ friend for more than 30 years, said Jones was extremely well organized and “she was never without something to do. And she was so good at it, so why not use all of those talents?” Emily Craven, a past president of the parish CCW, said Jones got her involved in the parish and helped her convert to the Catholic faith. Jones “was a force. ... She always said what she meant, and that’s what I loved about her. She was just awesome.” In addition to her work with the DCCW, Jones served as treasurer for the National Council of Catholic Women. Bobbie Hunt, who was president of the NCCW when Jones was treasurer, said Jones was a dear friend and was like a sister.
