Laura Lindula, an eighth-grade student at Saint Francis Xavier School and a member of the National Junior Honor Society, wanted to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. She came up with the theme “Be an Everyday Samaritan: We Rise by Lifting Others” to encourage fellow students to help each other as well as families in Houston. With the “Samaritan Hearts for Houston” project, St. Francis Xavier students from pre-school through eighth grade brought in coins, bills and checks, collecting more than $1,800, which will be sent to the American Red Cross for distribution.
