NOTRE DAME — Holy Cross Sister Marian Therese (Judith Ellen) Slattery, 73, died Sept. 24.

Sr. Marian Therese was born May 3, 1935, in Omaha, Neb., to Edward T. Slattery and Beatrice C. Buckley. She graduated from Saint Mary’s Academy of Los Angeles in 1953. She entered the Holy Cross Congregation in 1953. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Santa Clara in California and did post graduate work there also. Sr. Marian Therese’s ministry included many years as a teacher and administrator in elementary schools in California, Utah, and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Parish ministry and community service followed in Israel, Ghana, Saint Mary’s Convent in Notre Dame, Ind., and San Antonio, Texas. A highlight was a special assignment as co-director of Relief Operations with Catholic Relief Services in Beirut, Lebanon in the mid 1980s.

She is survived by three sisters, Mary C. Guillot, Patricia A. Duralde, Fullerton, Calif.; Holy Cross Sister Rita Slattery, Notre Dame, Ind.; and two brothers, Edward F. Slattery, Palm Desert, Calif.; and William J. Slattery, Marina del Rey, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary, Notre Dame, Ind.
