OGDEN — It’s been a year developing St. Joseph Catholic High School’s latest project. Diligent efforts by Principal Clay Jones and Ogden City have finally paid off. The new pavilion and turf complex groundbreaking occurred Oct. 13. We are so proud of our community, our alumni and our staff for bringing this dream to a reality.

The idea, initially brought up in an Athletic Boosters meeting over two years ago regarding restroom access, has turned into a $630,000 project. The pavilion will include restrooms, a small kitchen/concession area and covered seating. The turf field is a full-size regulation soccer field. This dream was only possible with the efforts of our alumni and outside funding, particularly the Class of 1968 and Patrick Powers.

“Faith is a gift from God,” Jones said. “This project speaks to the faith in our loved ones, friends and our community. It speaks to the faith we have in St. Joseph and beyond. Our village has accomplished this goal.”

Several community leaders attended the groundbreaking. State Representative Steve Waldrip expressed his gratitude for being included and remarked, “I am proud to be a part of an independent Catholic school putting faith at the forefront.”

Also joining in the celebration were Real Salt Lake’s mascot Leo the Lion and forward Luis Silva.

Ray Bertoldi, SJCHS Class of 1981 and owner of Bertoldi Architects, designed the project. He remarked that his parents met on the school campus, and that he is proud to be able to continue to improve the facilities, and make lasting memories for generations to come.

We would also like to thank Bob Emenger (GWI Steel), JJ Arellano (Artistic Roofing), Jack Packard (Site X), and Aren Zarmani (Rock Images) for the roles they are all playing in making our campus dream come true.

The new complex will allow St. Joseph to thrive as a community member by exposing soccer players from around Ogden and the surrounding areas to our beautiful campus. We can offer an amazing venue for future soccer events and tournaments.
