KEARNS — Students, faculty, staff, and parents took a trip around the world by walking through the gymnasium at St. Francis Xavier Regional School May 18. The seventh grade class hosted the "Country Fair."

For a social studies project, the seventh graders chose the country they wanted to present based on a personal inspiration. Many students expressed the desire to visit the country they chose to research because of a specific place, custom, or element they observed. Others selected a country for a personal reason.

One student chose Japan because his sister traveled there. Another student chose Cuba because his father is a Cuban immigrant. Argentina was chosen by a student because his neighbor is from Argentina.

Each student collected information about their country such as the population, history, tourist attractions, foods, the flag, and other cultural facts. The students made a poster board containing all the information, and included music, costumes, dolls, and various other artifacts in their display.

"I gain knowledge from each presentation and I love the enthusiasm they express in sharing what they have learned about each country," said Veronica Brand, St. Francis Xavier middle school teacher.
