Students at Kearns-St. Ann School learn about Christmas traditions at a Jesse Tree. The tree was created by seventh graders at the parish religious education program under the direction of Dora LaVoie. LaVoie on December 14 took children from the extended day program to the Jesse Tree, where they talked about the symbols many of which came from the Old and New Testaments. Clockwise from top, LaVoie and preschoolers examine hand-made ornaments; the Jesse Tree stands in the window of St. Ann Church; symbols of the lion, bread, and wheat remind us of God's strength and the bread of the Eucharist; the symbols on the Jesse Tree include the dove of peace, a shepherd's staff, a milk jug, and a scroll containing the Word of God.
