Greetings of Christ’s peace and love!

What a spectacular gathering of the faithful we had last Sunday, celebrating our Diocesan Eucharistic Rally. Never have I experienced such support, enthusiasm and devotion to the Eucharist, the source and summit of our Christian lives. We are truly a local Church alive with faith-filled, missionary disciples. It was so heart-warming to be a part of thousands of the people of God of diverse cultural backgrounds from all the parishes and missions of our Diocese of Salt Lake City gathered as one faith community around the Eucharist.

We thank God for his awesome blessing of a grace-filled celebration of our faith. Such events require creative planning and hard work on the part of many. I want to thank all the faithful who came for the celebration of the Holy Mass. I was delighted to see parents with their children enjoying the spirit of our togetherness, and the activities and events at the rally. Special thanks to Father Christopher Gray, whose zeal and personal skills organized our Diocesan Eucharistic Rally with his working committees, our diocesan staff and to all who sacrificed their time as volunteers.

I am likewise grateful for the overwhelming support of all our brother priests, especially those who devoted several hours hearing confessions all day; the deacons, religious and lay leaders for organizing and sending representatives from all our parish and mission communities; to all our invited speakers – Bishop Daniel E. Flores, Dr. José Antonio Medina, Dr. Timothy O’Malley and Benjamin Acosta, who enriched our understanding of the Holy Eucharist – the choir and musicians, who enlivened our Holy Mass and Benediction; and volunteer security officers.

The gathering space for the Holy Mass had a nice spiritual and reverential setting. Thanks also to those who created the beautiful cathedral-like environment, for the procession of banners and for benefactors who so generously provided funding that made our gathering possible. How wonderful it was to see the many children, young people and families enjoy the educational displays and other events. God truly blessed our Eucharistic Jubilee last Sunday. I am grateful.

Our diocesan rally launched the second stage of the National Eucharistic Revival under the initiative of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. We look forward to an exciting spiritual journey ahead as we bring the joyful experience and ardor of our love for this great sacrament in all our parishes and missions throughout the diocese in Utah as we continue renewing our faith in the real presence of Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

May God continue to bless us and our endeavor!

The Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, D.D.
