The Eighth Station of the Cross, Jesus Speaks to the Women and Children of Jerusalem, is found in St. Patrick Church in Salt Lake City. The stations were imported from Italy and are hand carved. St. Patrick Parish was founded in 1892. The women and children of Jerusalem cried when they saw that Jesus was hurt, but He told them not to weep for Him. They had seen his compassion and welcomed his words of healing and freedom. He had broken all kinds of social and religious conventions to connect with them. Now they are here to support him. He feels their grief. He suffers, knowing he cannot remain to help them more in this life. He knows the mystery facing the separation of death.
