July 26, 1921 ~ April 15, 2018

On April 15, 2018, another of our “Greatest Generation,” Senior Master Sergeant Theodore Kampf, USAF, ret., passed away peacefully at his home.

He was born to Samuel and Christina Boche Kampf on July 26, 1921, in Havre, Montana. He is survived by his loving daughter, LaVon June Kampf, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, June LaVon, his parents and 12 siblings.

Ted spent his lifetime with his loving wife, June LaVon, and they made many lasting memories over 47 years of marriage. Their daughter was their pride and joy. The last year of his life, LaVon moved home to care for him, which she said was a cherished time for both. LaVon is a Sister of the Marianist Sisters of San Antonio, Texas.

He was a proud American, who was very honored to serve in both the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, and retired as a senior master sergeant. He served during World War II in the Philippines, where he was held as a prisoner of war for three years and forced into the horror and brutality of the Bataan Death March. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he began his second career with the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank Police Force, from which he retired after 19 years of service.

Ted was very devoted to the River’s Bend Senior Center, where he loved playing cards and drinking coffee with his friends.

He was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He has left a valiant example for us to follow.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Duane Moss.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, April 30, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North, Salt Lake City, where friends may call at 1 p.m. for a viewing and rosary.  Committal will follow at Fort Douglas Military Cemetery, Salt Lake City. Services in care of Neil O’Donnell and Sons.
