SAINT GEORGE — The Saint Paul Catholic Center in Hurricane and Saint George Catholic Church “Driving for Charity” golf tournament was held on Sept. 13 at Sky Mountain Golf Course in Hurricane. The tournament benefited both churches and Solomon’s Porch, an organization that offers hot meals to the community. Dixie Care and Share, also a recipient of the charity proceeds, provides food, clothing and other necessities to the community.
The Marine Corps League Dixie Detachment #1270 started off the ceremonies with a color guard led by Larry Mineer, Bill Toole, Jim Summers, Billion Johnson and Steve Handy; the detachment also assisted in last year’s tournament ceremony. Father Martin Picos, pastor of St. George Parish, then led the assembly in prayer. He joked that although he does not golf, he planned to go for a ride on the course in a golf cart.
The “Driving for Charity” golf committee thanks their golfers, sponsors and all those that donated gifts to this event, sending a special ‘thank you’ to the volunteers who worked tirelessly on this event.
