ST. GEORGE — A record number of children attended the Vacation Bible School at St. George Parish June 19-23. The 94 children, ranging in age from 5 to 11, was a significant increase from past years.

The theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School was “Parachute with the Angels.”  The parish’s social hall and CCD classrooms were decorated to reflect the theme.

For five days the children learned about their guardian angel and how their angel guides, comforts and protects them.  Each day as the students arrived for the adventure they would check in with St. Catherine, pick up their flight plan and meet their co-pilot, their very own guardian angel.

Throughout the week the children encountered people from the Bible whose lives were transformed by an angel. They also learned about Mary, Queen of Angels, who gave the gift of the miraculous medal to St. Catherine of Laboure.

Plenty of fun, games, crafts and snacks made each day a memorable adventure. Thanks to many generous parishioners, much of the necessary food and supplies for the event were donated, and many sponsorships were provided, which kept the cost of the event down and affordable for even the largest of families.

The last day of the event found most of the children asking that it not end and looking forward to next year’s event.Courtesy of St. George Parish
