Violet Peggy Barney, beloved wife and mother passed away April 1, 2017. She was born Oct. 22, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Theresa and Arnold Peterson. She married Robert L. Barney on Aug. 29, 1959 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ogden.
Vi and Bob moved to Bountiful in 1963 and became faithful members of St. Olaf Parish. The family consists of four sons: Scott (Sue Dawn), David (Janet), Michael (deceased), and Mark (of Oregon).
Violet graduated from St. Benedict’s School of Nursing in 1959, and later received a bachelor of science degree from Westminster College. She began her nursing career at St. Mark’s Hospital in 1964, where she held many positions over her 36-year career.
Vi loved to travel and enjoyed these opportunities to see the world.
She spent her life and retirement years giving in service, always thinking of others before herself.  She cherished the time spent with her family, and had a special bond with her granddaughters Brittny, Jessica, Katie and Emerald. Her love and devotion to family can’t adequately be expressed in words. 
She enjoyed volunteer work at St. Vincent’s shelter, where she made good friends and had a good time. St. Olaf Parish honored her with the “Woman of The Year” award in 2014.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on April 7 at St. Olaf Catholic Church.
