Walter A. Kitterer

SALT LAKE CITY — Walter A. Kitterer, 85, died May 23, surrounded by his family after fighting a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. He was a member of St. Ann Parish.

Kitterer was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Wallace, Neb., to Walter L. and Lydia Meyer Kitterer. He married Elaine Barber Oct. 8, 1949. He served his country proudly during World War II. Kitterer worked for the D & RG Railroad and Standard Oil before opening his own service station. He operated Walt’s Chevron for more than 30 years, serving many loyal friends, relatives, and customers. He enjoyed bowling, baseball, tinkering around the house and yard, and discussing sports and politics. He was a quiet, selfless, and unassuming man, who always put his family first. He exhibited a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He exemplified a great strength of character and a wry sense of humor throughout his life and during the course of his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Steve (Karla), Madde, and Tony (Wanda); grandchildren, Matt (Rachel), Kelly, Thomas, Marcus, and Emma; great-grandchildren, Julia and Emily.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Ann Catholic Church. Interment was held in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Kearns-St. Ann School or Harmony Health and Hospice.
