SALT LAKE CITY – The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry is inviting all the young adults in their 20s to late 30s from all over the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City to a reflection evening with Bishop Oscar A. Solis.
The evening will be an opportunity for young adults to share a one-on-one moment with the bishop, said Junuee Castro, director of the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
“We decided to present this opportunity to all since we have never had this, to reunite the young adults sharing with our bishop,” she said, adding that it will be “a great way to start Advent and with who else other than with our bishop.”
The evening will offer a social time for the participants to mingle, a Holy Hour, the Sacrament of Confession, time for reflection and music provided by the young adult group from Saint Catherine of Siena Newman Center.
“This reflection based on Advent is important because the young adults should remember that our Church reminds us that this is a time to wait, but not a time to just wait; we have to put our faith in action, preparing for the upcoming celebration of the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” Castro said.
In the Catholic Church, Advent is the four-week period of preparation before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin word “advenio,” which means “to come.”
“This is an opportunity to have a time making changes in our interior [lives], especially in these times of such hardness,” Castro said. “This way all of us young adults can set aside a time away from our multiple tasks and busy-ness so we can look into ourselves and have that special and intimate encounter with Our Lord.”
The reflection with the Bishop will be celebrated in English, but all are invited.
“This is also an opportunity to close the year in a great way. … This will be last gathering of this year for the young adults in English, and what better way to share it among us and with our bishop?” Castro concluded.
