George Harold Koob

BOUNTIFUL — George Harold Koob, 84, died Dec. 31.

Koob was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Wellston, Mo., to George A. and Marie Donelon. He attended Highland Elementary in Rockford, Ill., where his father was a golf professional. He graduated from Wellston High Schoolin 1942. He played baseball and football, and was named co-captain of the football team and president of the Lettermen Club. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a Radio Operator/Waist Gunner on a B-24 bomber, and stationed at various air bases in the states until being honorably discharged in 1946. He graduated from St. Louis University. He married Martha Patt Moll Nov. 18, 1950, whom he had met in high school. They were married 57 years. She preceded him in death. For the next 37 years, he worked as a casualty underwriter and manager, transferring between St. Louis and Kansas City until retiring from Great American Insurance in 1986. They lived the majority of their lives in Kansas City. Following the death of their son Kevin in 2004, they relocated to North Salt Lake to be closer to their grandchildren.

He is survived by his son Doug (Meg); grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Olaf Catholic Church. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
