The Solemnity of the Anniversary of the Dedication of the Cathedral of the Madeleine was celebrated Feb. 21 with a Mass at noon. Monsignor Joseph Mayo (center), the Cathedral rector, presided. Monsignor M. Francis Mannion (far right), who was rector during the renovation in the 1990s, concelebrated the Mass; Deacon Silvio Mayo (left) and Deacon Armando Solórzano assisted. "Today is both a wonderful and historic feast in the life of our Cathedral," Msgr. Mayo said in his homily. The Cathedral was rededicated by Bishop William Wiegand on Feb. 21, 1993 after it had been closed for 22 months for remodeling. "The dedication celebrated the renewal and restoration and of this place set apart for the worship of God, originally built, as we know, with great sacrifice and efforts by those who have gone before us, and now beautifully refitted for another century of service for the people of Utah."
