SALT LAKE CITY — Armand Cafarelli, 91, passed away Jan. 12, 2014. Cafarelli was born Feb. 18, 1922 in Aguilar, Colo., to William and Josephine Oppocher Cafarelli. He attended Holy Trinity grade school and then attended Notre Dame grade school. He left for the Naval Air Corps’ Cadets B12 program, training at Cal-Poly and St. Mary’s of Moraga. While in the Naval Air Corps, he married Katherine Louise Cuburu, on Nov. 29, 1943. During World War II, he served four years in the Pacific Islands with the Seabees. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Even in his later years, Armand never missed an opportunity to grab his love, Kay, put on a Big Band record, and jitterbug across the kitchen floor. Cafarelli was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister and other extended family members. Cafarelli is survived by his wife, Kay; daughters Jean Gardner (Greg) and Mary Jo Owens (Alan); five grandsons and six great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
