Carmelite Fair Donations — Contributions are being sought to support the annual Carmelite Fair, which this year is scheduled for Sept. 15. Handmade items or financial support will be much appreciated. The Carmelite Fair is the main source of income for the Carmelite nuns in Holladay, whose lives are dedicated to prayers for the whole world, and especially for each one in the diocese. Items can be dropped off at the monastery, 5714 S. Holladay Blvd., or call 801-918-3227 to schedule a pick up.

Saint Ambrose Italian Festival — Aug. 23-24, at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East, SLC. There will be wine and beer, kids games, bocce tournament, Italian food and entertainment.

Barbecue Dinner Fundraiser — Saturday Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. The Friends of Sister Mary Joseph and Knights of Columbus Council 602 are sponsoring the dinner to assist the Carmelite nuns pay their health care expenses. RSVP by Thursday, Aug. 22, to Tom Catrow Catering at 801-688-3194.

Religious vocation — Saturday, Aug. 24, 2 p.m. at the Holy Cross convent, 554 East 11800 South, Draper. Young women interested in learning more about religious vocations are invited to a Prayer and Pasta Dinner. For information, contact Samantha Almanza, 801-328-8641 ext. 313.

Saint Francis Xavier Parish Festival — Saturday, Aug. 24, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns. American/Mexican food, kids’ games, raffle drawings, and live entertainment all day.

Blessed Sacrament Fall Festival — Aug. 24-25: Saturday, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1745 East 9800 South, Sandy. Wasatch Front Farmers Market, rock climbing wall, games and crafts for kids, live entertainment and food court.

Engaged Encounter Weekend — Aug. 24-25. Due to hotel requirements, couples must have their registrations in two weeks prior to the desired weekend date. If couples sign up after that, there is no guarantee that rooms can be booked through the hotel. For information contact Veola Burchett, 801-328-8641 ext. 324.

Dine to Donate — Thursday. Aug. 29, 5-9 p.m. at Village Inn, 4680 S. Redwood Road, Taylorsville. A portion of the dinner purchase will be donated to Special Olympics to help athletes participate in events for an entire year. Hosted by the Knights of Columbus.

Christ in the City — Tuesday, Sept. 3, 6:30 p.m. in The Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple, SLC. An hour of Eucharistic Adoration, scripture reading, reflection time, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation for young adults (ages 18–35) with Father Martin Diaz. Young Adult Sessions — The second Wednesday of every month beginning Sept. 11, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Public Library, 210 East 400 South, SLC. Father Eleazar Silva will lead discussions and answer questions young adults (18–35) may have about the teachings of the Catholic Church. The first session will be in Conference Room 2. Bishop’s Dinner 10th Anniversary — The Bishop’s Dinner supports the Cathedral of the Madeleine. This year it will be Sept. 26 at the The Grand America Hotel, 500 S. Main Street, SLC. The guest speaker for the 10th anniversary of the Bishop’s Dinner will be the Most Reverend George H. Niederauer, Archbishop emeritus of San Francisco and the eighth Bishop of Salt Lake City. "Catholics Can" Mass — Saturday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m. at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church, 2335 Redondo Ave., SLC. Bishop John C. Wester will preside; ministers during the Mass will include individuals with disabilities. A reception follows the Mass. Ultrasound machine purchase — The Knights of Columbus and the Office of Family Life are collaborating to buy an ultrasound machine for the Salt Lake Pregnancy Resource Center to help women who are considering abortion to carry their child to term. To donate, either send a check or money order to Knights of Columbus, c/o Jerald Hanten, 13745 S 2200 W, Riverton UT 84065 (write "ultrasound" in memo line) or donate online at http://www.utahknights.org/donate.html. The Knights are matching all donations.
