Backpacks sought — Friday, Aug. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Catholic Community Services, in partnership with Channel 13, will host a Backpack Bonanza at Saint Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, 437 West 200 South, Salt Lake City. Saturday Mass — Saint George Parish, 259 West 200 North, St. George, has made a permanent Mass time change on the first week in August. The Saturday Mass will now start at 5 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m.

Judge Memorial New Student and Freshman Orientation — Friday, Aug. 19 at 8 a.m. in the auditorium, 650 South 1100 East, Salt Lake City. Registration will be in the foyer; lunch will be provided and dismissal will be at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Young Adult Pool Party and BBQ — Saturday, Aug. 13, 4-6 p.m. at the Bishop’s Residence. The Young Adult Steering Committee will provide the main course, but all young adults are encouraged to bring something to share. Don’t forget your swimming suit and towel, as there will be games, contests and prizes.

Parish Wide Yard Sale — Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 514 24th St., Ogden. The Knights of Columbus will be selling food.

Summer Festival 2011 — Saturday, Aug. 20, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Vietnamese Parish, 5415 South 4360 West, Kearns, will host a carnival. Free admission, so come enjoy live entertainment, bingo, games, raffles and good food. For information call 801-968-8981.

St. Francis Xavier Parish Festival — Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4501 West 5215 South, Kearns. Beginning at 8 a.m. will be farmer’s market and garage sale, at 9 a.m. there will be a children’s fun run, festival activities from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and concludes with a dance at 8 p.m., which will cost $10 per person.

Fall Festival and 5K Run — Saturday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 28, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Parish and School, 9800 South 1700 East, Sandy. Admission is free. Pot Luck Farewell Luncheon — Sunday, Aug. 28 for Msgr. Bill Bonczewski, pastor of Saint Jude Maronite Catholic Church who is being is reassigned to West Virginia. The luncheon will be at the church, 4900 Wasatch St., Murray, following the 10:30 a.m. Divine Liturgy.

Harvest Festival and Carnival — Saturday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 4050 South 3900 West, West Haven. Starting at 9 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, the event will include games and entertainment featuring musicians and dancers from the surrounding areas, a farmer’s market and local business vendors.
