SANDY — The students in Ms. Reich’s 5th-grade class at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Sandy are excited to be pen pals with the 5th-grade class at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic School in Allen Park, Mich.

For Catholic Schools’ Week, the 5th-grade students at St. Frances Cabrini chose one Catholic school in each of the 50 states and mailed a letter to them asking for a class photo. Blessed Sacrament was their choice for Utah.

Once Ms. Reich read the letter to her students, they began to plan what they would send to their new pen pals.

Each of the 5th-grade students at Blessed Sacrament wrote a letter about the school, what they like to do, and what is offered at the school in the way of sports and extracurricular activities.

Not only did they include a class photo but also a window decal of the school.

Emsy Baty and Grace McGowan-Jackson took about 20 photos around the school and enclosed those as well.

As a National School of Character, Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, focuses on the 11 Principles of Character Education.

This year during Catholic Schools’ Week, each student created a necklace that included symbols for each of the 11 principles that are focused on each day at the school. Grace donated her necklace and mailed it to the 5th-grade students at St. Frances Cabrini. The 5th-grade students at Blessed Sacrament are excited to be pen pals with the students at St. Frances and anxiously await hearing from them.
