November 5, 1921 ~ October 19, 2018

Our dear father, Boyd Franklin Ingalls, slipped away peacefully on October 19, 2018, after living a long, full and vital life. Boyd was born in Salt Lake City on November 5, 1921 to Jeannette Marie Bolognese and Mark Pitt Ingalls. Boyd was very close to his maternal grandmother, Anna Bolognese, who nurtured his faith in the Catholic Church as well as imparting the zest of his Italian heritage. Anna ensured that Boyd and his brother Robert Ingalls (who preceded him in death) went to mass every Sunday. Boyd remained a devout Catholic all his life.

Boyd became an Eagle Scout in his teens and then went on to study zoology and German at the University of Utah. It was while he was attending Georgetown dental school in Washington, D.C. that he met the love of his life, Dorothy Marie Yurick (who preceded him in death) from Billings, Mont. They began dating, fell in love and were married on September 9, 1950 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in Washington, D.C.

A large young family began to take shape with the arrival of Bryon (Tohnnie) Ingalls, and Carol (Dale) Matuska. Once settled back in Salt Lake, four more children filled their home: Christopher (Diane) Ingalls, Diane (ex-Steve) Reid, Susan (Todd) Brashear, and Jennifer (Jeff) Drutman. Boyd and Dorothy enjoyed the love of nine grandchildren.

Boyd was a member of  the Army ROTC from 1943 to 1946, earning a discharge with the rank of first lieutenant. Following dental school, he joined the Air Force for two years, serving in the Philippines and at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas, where he was discharged as a captain. In 1953, Boyd and Dorothy moved to Salt Lake, where he began a successful 45-year dental practice.

Boyd had a fun and quirky sense of humor, which endeared him to many friends and patients alike. Boyd loved to socialize at the Cottonwood Club with Dorothy, making many dear friends. He loved his sweet little dogs, Mickey and Peaches. Special thanks to the nursing and CNA staff at St Joseph’s Villa for their loving care of our father.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, October 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Starks Funeral Parlor, 3651 South 900 East, Salt Lake City. Guests are encouraged to use the complimentary valet parking on the north side of the building. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 27 at 2 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1975 South 2300 East, Salt Lake City. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 275 U St., Salt Lake City.

“See you later, Harry!”
