OGDEN— On May 15, CCS of Northern Utah will honor some of those who have helped the organization at its 12th annual Dream Builder’s Breakfast.

Last year, the organization fed 88,974 hungry individuals, provided 616 newborns with layettes, 1,947 school kids with backpacks and 671 children with coats. CCS also constructed a 12,000-square-foot addition to the warehouse at the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank in Ogden, tripling its capacity.

None of this could have been accomplished without a great deal of help, CCS Northern Utah Director Maresha G. Bosgieter said.

“The Dream Builder’s Breakfast is just a great opportunity for us to come together and honor some amazing people who’ve done a lot for us,” she said.

In 2018, 4,563 volunteers provided 15,082 hours of service to CCS Northern Utah and its clients. Many of those hours were provided by construction company Wadman Corp. and its employees.

“They are just such a wonderful partner,” Bosgieter said. “They were such a great help when we built our new warehouse addition last year.”

Wadman Corp. will be recognized at the Dream Builder’s Breakfast.

Blake Wahlen, former CCS of Northern Utah advisory board president, will also be honored.

Wahlen, who recently retired from a position as the general manager of Business Depot Ogden, “fell into my lap at just the perfect time,” Bosgieter said. “He was a rock for me with that whole process of building on that new addition.”

One of CCS of Northern Utah’s primary programs is Bridging the Gap, which each month provides food packets to 4,000 schoolchildren in Ogden and Weber counties. The program came about in 2014 when the Arby’s Foundation approached the charity on partnering in the venture.

“This wasn’t on our radar, and they wanted to do something here in Utah, so they asked us to partner with them,” Bosgieter said. “It’s an amazing hunger program and they have participated with it every year since 2014.”

Another individual who has contributed greatly to CCS’s success is Vickie Mager. A former five-year CCS of Northern Utah board member, Mager volunteers extensively at CCS and is involved in several of its programs. Every year she also organizes a large group of family and friends who gather to assemble pantry packs (gallon-sized bags filled with six meals and four snacks) for the Bridging the Gap program.

The Arby’s Foundation and Mager will be recognized alongside Wadman Corp. and Wahlen at the breakfast where Bishop Oscar A. Solis will speak.

The event, which is CCS of Northern Utah’s primary fundraiser, is always well-attended, Bosgieter said.
