SALT LAKE CITY — Capt. Kenneth R. Burns, USMC (Ret.), 76, passed away July 21, 2012.

Burns was born Aug. 26, 1935, in Salt Lake City to Kenneth Lynn Burns and Mary Ellen Bircumshaw. He attended Judge Memorial Catholic High School and joined the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He married Beth Hansen on July 17, 1953.

Burns was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and a Saint Ann parishioner during his final years. He was a devoted Catholic who served his church in every ministry imaginable. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime employee/volunteer at St. Joseph Villa.

Burns is survived by children Mary Wells, Cheryl Dust, Lisa (Rudy) Chacon, Ann Foote and Mike Burns; siblings Sister Stella Joseph, Mary Ellen (George) Condas, Tom (Leila) Burns, Lynn Ann Burns, and Floyd Burns; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Burns was preceded in death by his wife, sons Joseph and Kenneth Burns Jr., daughter Colleen, and grandchildren Megan and Justin.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Saint Ann Catholic Church.
