Celebrating the Lord of the Miracles

The Catholic Peruvian community of Utah gathered Oct. 12 at the Cathedral of the Madeleine to celebrate a Mass in honor of the Lord of the Miracles, patron of Peru. The Lord of Miracles ( El Señor de los Milagros) is a painted image of Jesus Christ venerated in Lima, Peru. The image was painted during the 17th century by an unnamed African taken from Angolia to Peru as a slave. The Lord of Miracles festival in is one of the largest processions in the world. Father Javier Virgen, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Magna, presided at the Mass.
