SYRACUSE — Chrisie M. Garcia died peacefully Nov. 3, 2015, surrounded by loved ones.
Garcia was born Sept. 30, 1935 in La Madera, N.M., to Sixto H. and Eleanor G. Martinez. She lived in Syracuse, Utah most of her childhood and graduated from Davis High School. She worked hard to make her house in Layton a loving home for the family for over 50 years.
Throughout Garcia’s life, she was a dedicated worker to provide the best for her five boys. She retired from Autoliv after many years of service.
She also was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Parish. She supported and was involved in many activities, including the St. Rose of Lima Council of Catholic Women, Sewing Angels, RCIA and religious education, and the Northern Deanery. She was selected as St. Rose of Lima Woman of the Year by the Council of Catholic Women.
Garcia will be missed by her fellow parishioners and friends. She was always known as a social butterfly and was very proud to tell all the stories of her family’s accomplishments. She was always cheering loudly at all her children’s, grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events and was always their No. 1 fan.
Garcia is survived by her brother, Charlie Martinez; sister, Mary Alice Tate; sons Mark (Mickie) Garcia, Richard Garcia, Ron (Wendy) Garcia, Mario (Cindy) Garcia, Adrian Garcia; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Johnny Martinez, Joe Martinez, LeRoy Martinez and Gene Martinez.
A funeral Mass was held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center and Hospice for their care and treatment of our loving mom and grandma.
