DCCW growing in southwestern Utah

HURRICANE — The Southwest Deanery of the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women, which is comprised of the Saint Paul Catholic Center in Hurricane, Christ the King Parish in Cedar City, Saint Christopher Parish in Kanab, and Saint George Parish in Saint George, has as its president Judith Green, who has some goals now that interest in the deanery has rekindled.
Christ the King Parish has been active in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women for a number of years; the St. Paul Center and Saint Christopher Parish have been with the deanery for almost two years, and Saint George Parish renewed its affiliation in January.
“I want us to continue growing,” said Green, a member of the Saint Paul Catholic Center, which offers a weekly Mass celebrated by a priest from Saint George Parish as well as other parish activities like religious education. “One of the things I want to implement is a program like that which Christ the King has called the Cedar Area Interfaith Alliance, where Catholic women meet with women of all faiths. We have a lot in common with our LDS neighbors and we have the same ideals and we respect each other’s differences and faith beliefs; I want that to go further throughout the southwest.”
Green said she recently gave a talk to an LDS Relief Society group  which several men also attended. She spoke about exploitation of the elderly; before she retired she worked with the State of Utah as an investigator, educator and mediator on senior issues.
“I want to create action down here in the southwest [area of Utah] because we are small and not close to Salt Lake City,” she said.
