The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) open the 81st convention. They are calling all women to the 82nd convention, which will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in Salt Lake City April 24-25.

SALT LAKE CITY — The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) would like to invite all women in the diocese of Salt Lake to the 82nd Annual DCCW Convention, "Moving Forward With Faith and Joy." The convention will be held April 24-25 at the Sheraton Hotel.

The two commissions being addressed this year are Family and Legislation. The Most. Rev. John C. Wester, bishop of Salt Lake City, will give the morning welcome April 24. Bishop Wester is the chairman of the United States Council of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on Migration and Refugee Services, and serves on the Administrative Committee, the Catholic Legal Immigration Network Board, the Catholic Relief Services Board and the USCCB Subcommittee on Interreligious Dialogue. He is also Region XIII representative, Episcopal advisory council of the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Bishop Wester will celebrate Mass Saturday evening at the hotel just prior to the Women of the Year Banquet.

In honor of the Year of the Priests, as declared by Pope Benedict XVI, Msgr. Robert Servatius, the DCCW spiritual moderator, and the Deanery moderators: Northern Deanery Father Erik Richtsteig, Salt Lake Deanery Msgr. Rudolph Daz, Southwest Deanery Msgr. Michael Winterer Wasatch Deanery Father James Blaine will be at the convention to share their stories of what led them to the priesthood and their roles as deanery moderators.

Dee Rowland, diocesan government liaison and director of the Peace and Justice Commission for the Diocese of Salt Lake, will be the presenter for the Family Commission. The title of her talk is "Our Values Our Voices." Rowland presently chairs the Gun Violence Prevention Center board of directors and serves on boards for Holy Cross Ministries, The Utah Health Policy Project, the Midvale Family Clinic and the Workforce Services Employment Advisory Council.

Utah House of Representative members Tim M. Cosgrove and Mark Archuleta Wheatley will be the speakers for the Legislative Commission.

Cosgrove is a child advocate at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, and serves as an advocate for children’s health and safety issues. He was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 2004 and serves in District 44 in the Murray/Midvale area.

Wheatley is serving his third term as a member of the Utah House of Representatives. He represents District 35, which encompasses South Salt Lake and Murray. He is a member of the higher education, appropriations, public education judiciary and Native American liaison committees.

Wheatley has been a community activist since the early 1980s. He has been employed at Salt Lake Community College for the last 15 years, serving as an education administrator for several programs.
