SPOKANE, Wash. — DeNae "Dede" Johns, 63, died Dec. 25, at Spokane’s Hospice House.

Johns was born Jan. 16, 1945, in Price, to Henry and Ida Dusserre. She moved to Spokane in 1977. She taught second grade at Madison Elementary in Spokane for 26 years. Teaching was a passion for her. She loved working with children, and always had a willing smile and a hug ready for anyone who needed it. She especially loved touching the lives of kids who needed a friend, a teacher, or a surrogate mother to go the extra mile for them. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and going on adventures with her grandchildren, Addie and Charlie. Grandma Dot, always took extra time to smell the roses on their adventures. She also enjoyed excursions with close friends and spending time with her sister, Marcie, and her nieces. She was a trusted friend and companion to her daughter Amee, and they enjoyed spending time together. She was known for her homemade spaghetti, and loved setting an elegant table for family and friends.

She is survived by her son, Chuck (Dora) Johns; daughter, Amee Johns; two grandchildren, Addie and Charlie Johns; sister Marcie (David) Downs; nieces, Aarin Anderson, Kirsten Downs, and BayLa Anderson.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
