On Oct. 19, the Diocese of Salt Lake City celebrated Council Sunday, an annual day set aside to recognize and thank the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women affiliates and acknowledge the contributions and accomplishments of their members.
Many of the DCCW affiliates organized an event at their parish in honor of Council Sunday. For example:
Blessed Sacrament Parish asked women to participate in the lay ministries at Mass and sit together on Oct. 26. Monsignor Robert Servatius gave a blessing to all women. Following Mass was a Ladies Tea Party with sandwiches and desserts; the women were asked to bring their favorite tea cup and share a special memory. The NCCW’s Litany for the Women of Council was prayed and door prizes were given.
Cathedral of the Madeleine presented information explaining the CCW and the history of Council Sunday.
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Magna had a CCW information table at their fall festival.
Saint Ann Parish held a bake sale, with benefits going to the Carmelites. They also gave Our Lady of Guadalupe medals to all the women of their parish.
Saint Anthony of Padua Parish had women participate in the lay ministries at Mass.
Saint Olaf Parish decorated the church on Oct. 12 and gave out pink carnations to all the women in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They also had a CCW information table.
Saint George Parish asked the CCW women to attend the 9 a.m. Mass and sit in a designated pew marked with blue ribbons. After Mass they handed out blue flowers with prayer cards to all the women who attended the Mass.
Saint Paul Parish handed out special bags printed with the Hail Mary prayer and containing information on the CCW and the Southwest Deanery CCW.
Saint Therese of the Child Jesus Parish asked the CCW women to speak after each English Mass, explaining who they are, their vision and mission, introducing officers, and hosting an information table after Mass. The priest also imparted a special blessing on all women of the parish.
Saints Peter and Paul Parish handed out pamphlets about the CCW and put an announcement in the bulletin.
