Pam Grant, vice president of the St. Vincent de Paul Council of Catholic Women, prepares a poster included in an information display about the organization at her parish as part of the Council Sunday activities. Because the parish was hosting another event on Oct. 20, which was Council Sunday, the women celebrated the day on Oct. 13.

The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women is affiliated with the national organization. Its mission is to unite Catholic women’s organizations and individual Catholic women in Utah through support, empowerment and education in the areas of spirituality, leadership and service.

The Diocese of Salt Lake City has 27 DCCW affiliates in parishes throughout the state. The annual Council Sunday event, which this year was Oct. 20, celebrates their accomplishments and contributions.

Each council planned its own activity for the day. At several parishes, including St. George and St. Vincent de Paul, DCCW members sat together at Mass, wearing blue scarves with the DCCW logo. Others organized displays at their parish that explained the work of the DCCW. At St. Paul Catholic Center in Hurricane, Judy Greene, past president of the Southwest Deanery, presented the ladies with a prayer card of the Blessed Mother and described the creation of the NCCW by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1920, and the organization of the local DCCW Council in 1928.
