Dear friends in Christ,
For more than 120 years, the Intermountain Catholic has served as the official newspaper for the Diocese of Salt Lake City. What began as a print edition is now also available online, with Facebook and Twitter feeds as well as a website.
No matter the format, the Intermountain Catholic is an essential source of information for Catholics in Utah. It provides coverage of pastoral activities and events throughout the state, as well as information about the Church in the United States and the world. In its pages you also can find resources for faith formation and inspiring stories about Catholics living their faith.
The Intermountain Catholic publishes weekly except in the summer, when it comes out six times from July through August. Each week it reaches Catholics and non-Catholics throughout our state and beyond. It is a significant tool in our mission of evangelization, sharing the Good News and providing us a way to tell the story of the Catholic Church in Utah, connecting the diocese with the faithful and them with each other, promoting and enhancing the spirit of unity that builds our communion as the Body of Christ.
I am particularly proud of the wide-ranging coverage the Intermountain Catholic gave to our Diocesan Eucharistic Revival and Mass, which was held July 9. An estimated 10,000 Catholics gathered as a faith community that day at the Mountain America Exposition Center in Sandy, filled with joy and ardor for the Eucharist, as I said in my homily at the Mass.
In the coming months, the Intermountain Catholic will continue its coverage of the Eucharistic Revival as parishes in our diocese organize their own efforts in educating their communities about the Eucharist and encouraging devotion to this great sacrament, the source and summit of our Christian life and worship.
I encourage all our parishioners to subscribe to the Intermountain Catholic, our diocesan newspaper. You also may donate a subscription on behalf of your parish, or give a subscription to family and friends who could benefit by keeping in touch with their Catholic roots. You will find subscription cards enclosed in this issue, or you can subscribe online at https://icatholic.dioslc.org/subscription or by telephone by calling 801-328-8641 ext. 356. The price for 47 issues annually is $30, an increase of $5 after many years of remaining the same. I ask that you take a moment to fill out a subscription card, go online or call to subscribe.
Your financial support of the Intermountain Catholic is significant to help our diocese carry out her mission of evangelization. Please help us make it available to every parishioner, every family member and friends in business establishments, schools, homes and other people who rely on Church information and news with this format.
Grateful for your generous support and wishes of God’s blessings for you and your loved ones, I remain
Yours truly in Christ,
Most Rev. Oscar A. Solis, D.D.
Bishop of Salt Lake City
