DENVER, Colo. — Emil (Mitch) Ballen, 87, passed away peacefully on Feb. 2, 2012.

Ballen was born May 21, 1924 in Bingham and graduated from Judge Memorial High School. His family built and operated the Little Pine Lodge in Parley’s Canyon. Emil was a World War II veteran in the Army 407th Infantry Regiment.

Ballen was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Ballen, and sister Mary Ballen Lee.

Ballen is survived by his wife, Kathryn Davich Ballen; daughters Julianne (Rich) Eichler, and Mary (Greg) Dines Munson; sons John (Linda), Mark (Sara) and James Ballen; and seven grandchildren.

A celebration of his life was conducted at the Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church Benvegnu Center.
