Q: With Archbishop Wester’s reassignment to the Archdiocese of Santa Fe, who will oversee the Diocese of Salt Lake City?

A: Archbishop Wester will serve as administrator of the Diocese of Salt Lake City until he is installed as Archbishop of Santa Fe on June 4. At that time, the seven priests who serve as Diocesan Consultors will meet and, within eight days, elect an administrator who will serve until a new bishop is appointed.

Q: When will a new bishop be appointed to the Diocese of Salt Lake City?

A: There is no way of knowing; the process could take a year or more before the appointment is made in Rome.

Q: With the departure of Archbishop Wester, who will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of Salt Lake City?

A: Archbishop Wester has arranged his schedule so as to include as many Confirmations as possible until he moves to Santa Fe at the beginning of June. The parish priests have been notified of the Confirmation schedule; if the archbishop is unable to confer the sacrament, the parish priest or another appointed priest will do so. Beyond June, the Confirmation schedule will be set by the new administrator.

Q: Will Archbishop Wester attend the 2015 Utah Catholic high school graduations?

A: Archbishop Wester is scheduled to attend all three graduations, but he will not celebrate the baccalaureate Masses.
 
Q: Who will ordain Deacons Joseph Delka and David Trujillo to the priesthood for the Diocese of Salt Lake City on June 26, and seminarian Jorge Martinez to the transitional diaconate on June 19?

A: Archbishop Wester is scheduled to celebrate all three ordinations. 

Q: What public celebrations are planned for Archbishop Wester’s farewell?

A: The Diocese of Salt Lake City will have several public celebrations for Archbishop John C. Wester to thank him and wish him well. He will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 309 E. South Temple in Salt Lake City, on Sunday, May 24 at 3 p.m. in Spanish and on Sunday, May 31 at 11 a.m. in English. Receptions will follow both Masses. Also, on Sunday, May 31, a public reception will be held at the Little America Hotel, 500 S. Main St. in Salt Lake City, from 5 to 8 p.m.
