Father John Evans has been appointed Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia for the Diocese of Salt Lake City, Bishop Oscar A. Solis announced May 6.

The appointment will be effective Aug. 1. Fr. Evans is currently pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Cottonwood Heights.

Msgr. Colin F. Bircumshaw, the current Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, will reach the age of 75 in June and will be retiring after 49 years of priestly service to the diocese, 13 of them as Vicar General.

“This announcement is made in advance of the other priestly assignment changes that will take place on August 1, 2024, in order to assure a smooth transition in this important ministry in the service of the Diocese,” Bishop Solis wrote in the memo announcement the appointment.
