Blessed Sacrament School in Sandy received a $2,000 grant from Whole Kids Foundation to expand the school’s community garden, which teaches students about complex topics like sustainability and conservation, food systems and community awareness. The School Garden Grant Program is a collaboration between Whole Kids Foundation and FoodCorps. Blessed Garden was established in 2013 by Brownie Troop 720 and Daisy Troop 712. The Gardening Committee goals include integrating a school-wide gardening curriculum and making the garden self-sustaining. Toward this goal, the garden has a compost system and worm farm. Future plans include adding a mini-greenhouse to the campus. During a gardening party on May 16, families, students, and community members spent the evening planting, working in the garden and making new friends.
