Gregory S. Fata

Nov. 4, 1949 ~ June 18, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory S. Fata on June 18, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born Nov. 4, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Charles Fata and Afton Gleason. He graduated from Judge Memorial Catholic High School in 1968; he enlisted and served in the Army Reserves from 1970 to 1975. He obtained his associate’s degree in accounting from Salt Lake Community College and bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Phoenix.

He married in 1974 and is survived by his three sons David C. Fata, Nicholas J. Fata and Jeffery S. Fata; four grandchildren Lindsay Adams, Jordan Fata, Cayden Fata and Samantha Fata; four great-grandchildren; and sister Nicky Sharp. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Fata.

He was a great dad, brother, uncle, grandpa and great-grandpa.

He worked for his entire career for the State of Utah, starting out with Parks and Recreation and retiring from UDOT after 30+ years. He filled many positions within the different agencies and specialized in the IT field.

He was very dedicated to youth sports, especially when it came to his children.  He was always the first one to volunteer to coach and help in any way he could. He coached all three sons in baseball and was the commissioner of the AYSO soccer league in Sandy when it was first organized. He continued this enthusiasm to his grandkids and great-grandkids and rarely missed a game, no matter what kind of ball it was.

He was a very active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Sandy. He was a man with many hats, ranging anywhere from bookkeeping to Bingo, from Bible class to helping with the school. He conducted the RCIA classes for many years and was the most welcoming, kind-hearted and faithful person we knew. He will be missed dearly.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 29 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9757 South 1700 East, Sandy, at 11 a.m.  Visitation will be held the night before on Friday, June 28 at 6 p.m. with the rosary at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Greg would appreciate donations to the American Diabetes Association.

We miss you and love you, Dad!
