DRAPER — Saint John the Baptist Parish is presenting a Jesus Healing program to all interested participants.
The idea for the parish to host this event came when Puthur Paulson, a parishioner, told Father Stephen Tilley, pastor, about his experience with the program.
“I am familiar with the Jesus Heals program and the impact it has made in the life of people across the USA,” Paulson said. “It was in my prayer that one day the Jesus Heals ministry would come to Salt Lake so we can experience the healing of Jesus.”
When Paulson heard that Fr. Roy Varghese Palatty CMI, who is in charge of the program, was going to visit California and Nevada, he immediately asked Fr. Tilley’s permission to host the program at the parish, and “he graciously agreed to host,” Paulson said.
Fr. Palatty is the spiritual director for Shalom Media, a multi-media company that shares the Peace of Christ in more than 150 countries worldwide, according to its website. Jesus Heals is one of its global events.
The importance of Jesus Heals is explained in Matthew 9:35, “where he tells us ‘Jesus went about all the cities and villages teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every sickness and every disease among the people,’” Paulson said.
“Today lots of people are in a panic state, afraid, and do not know what to do, especially when unexpectedly COVID took the life of many beloved ones,” he added. “They know they need something but they do not know what that is.”
The word of God has “the power to give new life and to heal the broken,” he continued. “It is important for people to realize this truth. The Jesus Heals event helps them turn to our Lord and receive all that He wants to give us.”
The power of healing and prayer is important, Paulson said. “I think that man is slowly realizing that all his knowledge and progress cannot help even against a small virus. Time and again God has proven that everything works for the good of those who trust in him. There is peace and joy even in the midst of suffering that only God can give.”
The Jesus Heals program includes Mass, preaching, praise, worship and Eucharistic adoration.
“During the service, Fr. Varghese Palatty prays specifically for healing of body, mind and spirit for all in attendance,” said Paulson, adding that those who attend the event also receive a blessing with holy oil and, the priest lays hands on them, praying for each one.
