SALT LAKE CITY — Helen A. Studen, 96, died April 26.

Studen was born in Gary, Ind., to Andrew and Mary Kmetz. She graduated from Ball State Teacher’s College. She and her husband, Wallace, and son, Ronald traveled west in 1949, and declared Salt Lake City was their "This is the Place," and they planted their roots. Wallace died in 1957. After her husband’s death Studen supported herself and her son by teaching fourth grade at J.E. Cosgriff Memorial School. She was a member of Saint Ambrose Parish for many years.

She is survived by her son, Ronald (Anita); granddaughter, Candace (Chris); grandson, Peter; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Erica; sister-in-law, Evelyn Kmetz; several nieces and nephews; and friends in Utah, California, and other parts of the country.

Graveside services were conducted by Msgr. Robert Servatius, a long-time friend of the family, at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
