TORONTO — The Intermountain Catholic newspaper received third place and honorable mention awards at the 2008 Catholic Press Association Convention of the United States and Canada held at the Sheraton Toronto Centre May 28-30. The Intermountain Catholic received the Best One Shot Special Issue third place award for the March 9, 2007, issue "Abide in Christ." This issue was a 72-page, three-section issue in which the Diocese of Salt Lake City, family, friends of the Most Rev. John C. Wester of the Diocese of Salt Lake City, and dignitaries welcomed him as the newly appointed bishop of the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Barbara S. Lee, editor of the Intermountain Catholic, received a Best News Writing on a Local/Regional Event honorable mention for her series on the Huntington mining disaster which trapped and killed six miners Aug. 6, and then three rescue miners 11 days later.
