James M. Hearley Sr.

SALT LAKE CITY — James M. Hearley Sr., 84, passed away in April 2013.

Hearley was born in Salt Lake City to John and Agnes Hearley in November 1928. He served as an altar boy at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in the 1930s and graduated in 1946 from Judge Memorial Catholic High School, where he played football. He studied engineering at the University of Utah and served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War. He then worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, retiring as a nuclear quality assurance inspector. He married Mary Bero in 1958, in Elko, Nev. and was active in Junior Achievement, the Hibernian Society and Saint Ambrose Parish.

Hearley is survived by sons James Jr. and John, sister Margaret May, sisters-in-law Ann Bero and Sue Smales; brother-in-law Butch Smales and many nieces and nephews.

A requiem Mass was celebrated at Saint Ambrose Catholic Church.
