Jayhawks shine on the athletic field in many sports

The Saint Joseph Catholic School girls soccer team made it to the state championship round this year but fell short of a title.

OGDEN - This year Saint Joseph Catholic School students were recognized by exceptional efforts in many areas, but especially in sports, in which the Jayhawks teams earned state championships in girls golf and track & field.

The Lady Jayhawks took the State Golf Championship for the second year in a row; Lexi Smith won an individual first place award during the state competition at Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. The Lady Jayhawks scored a team total of 196 points.

In track & field, the Jayhawks captured the state championship for the third consecutive year. Andrea Chavez won in the Girl's 1A 800m with a time of 2:17.81 to take the title. The UHSAA high school track and field championships were held at Robinson Field on the Brigham Young University campus in Provo.
