April 6, 1975 ~ June 8, 2024

Our dearest, Joan Ellen Moffat, returned home to God June 8, 2024 after suffering a catastrophic stroke at age 49.

Joanie was born April 6, 1975 in Salt Lake City, along with her twin sister Jill, to Don and Frances Carpenter. She attended Catholic schools in the area, graduating from Judge Memorial Catholic High School and later the University of Utah.

Joanie married the love of her life, Adam Moffat, in 2001. They were blessed with Alexander in 2004, Samuel in 2006 and Joseph in 2010. The boys were the joy and focus of her life. “Our mom would do anything to make us happy.” Joanie made everything special and memorable. She will always be their cozy, gentle place to land.

Joan was the glue that kept us all together. We have ridiculously big shoes to fill in the hope of carrying on all she taught us. It’s up to us to plan get-togethers, holidays, shopping trips and even what restaurant to go to – everything she did to keep those she loved close to her.

Joan will be missed so much because she was one of a kind. She lives on in all of us but especially Jill. The twins who talked every day, worked together and laughed so hard they cried; they shared a bond that would make you jealous. They had their own language as babies, and it continues even now. The “twins who married brothers” will never be the same without Joan. Ten years ago, Marianne, Jill and Joan went on a sister trip to South Carolina. This was the beginning of a very special bond between the three sisters. Joanie’s parents, sisters, husband, boys, family and friends knew they meant the world to her.

Joan is survived by her husband Adam; her boys Alexander, Samuel and Joseph; her amazing parents Don and Frances Carpenter; her sisters Jill Moffat (Mathew) and Marianne Hinckley (Trever); and sister-in-law Andrea Ohlson (Brian). She was also an adored Auntie to Aryanna, Zachary, Hunter, Carter and Austin.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on June 17, 2024 at Saint Olaf Catholic Church, Bountiful. Inurnment followed at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a scholarship for Joseph Moffat to continue his Catholic education. You may send payment to Saint Olaf Catholic School, Note: Joey Moffat, or online at Saint Olaf Catholic School.
